It’s the end of another grand year, and Google predictably is set for the party. Commemorating New Year’s eve Google has put up an animated doodle that highlights all the big events that happened all through 2014. Google’s Year in Search that was already released a while ago was again put in the spotlight. Topics like the General Elections 2014, the FIFA World Cup, the iPhone 6 launch, IIT’s GATE exams and the newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi were the most talked about in India this year. In short, Google spotlights all of the people, things and events that trended this year with the help of this doodle. The animated doodle depicts the things that trended worldwide. The FIFA World Cup was discussed most globally, along with Mangalyaan, the Philae comet landing and the phenomenally viral Ice Bucket Challenge. The Ice Bucket Challenge reached ‘virality’ on a global scale, probably a first in Internet history. Going back to the trending topics, in India, things that were searched most was IRCTC – Indian Railways’ online reservation site and e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Snapdeal. This further testifies the significant growth of e-commerce this year. In terms of people, Indians searched most for Sunny Leone, Narendra Modi, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Ragini MMS 2 was the most searched movie, followed closely by Kick, Jai Ho and Happy New Year.
With respect to tech, surprisingly Moto G was the most searched device in India. In fact the Xiaomi Mi3 stood at seven, while iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Moto E reigned above it.
