Apple announced its third quarter fiscal earnings yesterday where it sold 41.3 million iPhones, and generated over $53 billion in revenue. The company saw record growth in its services business as more user flocked to download apps from the App Store, and more people turned into paid subscribers on Apple Music.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple announced during the earnings call that company’s other products division, also did well during the third fiscal quarter. He added that wearable sales were up over 60 percent during the quarter due to strong demand for new Apple Watch and AirPods truly wireless earbuds. Apple also offered guidance for the next quarter, which was higher than what analysts were expecting from the company.

During the fourth fiscal quarter, Apple is guiding revenue between $60 billion and $62 billion and gross margin between 38 percent and 38.5 percent. This was one of the strongest indicators to investors, suggesting Apple expects strong demand for its next generation of iPhone. It also somewhat rebuffs rumors that upcoming iPhone models won’t be available immediately. That brings us to the big question When will Apple launch the next iPhone?

It is very easy to assume that Apple will launch the 2018 iPhone models in September. However, based on dates picked by Apple in the past for its iPhone launch event, we might see the new iPhones on September 11 or on 12. These dates are based on a math that has to do a lot with how Apple has picked the date in the past few years.

In the last six years, Apple has held the iPhone launch event on either a Tuesday or Wednesday, and it has usually been on the first or second week full week of September. That math leaves us with four possible dates Tuesday of September 4, Wednesday of September 5, Tuesday of September 11 or Wednesday of September 12. Last year, Apple held its launch event on September 12, which was a Tuesday on the second full week of September.

Considering Apple will announce 2018 iPhones during second full week of September this year as well, we are left with the option of September 11 or September 12. Another factor adding to that possible launch dates is the Labor Day, which is a holiday in the US. As CNET notes, in the past six years, Apple has announced the iPhone the following week whenever Labor Day landed on September 3 or earlier.

The Labor Day holiday is celebrated on the first Monday of September, which is September 3 this year. The logical conclusion is that Apple will launch the new iPhone models on September 11 or September 12. If you have to pick one date out of these two then it could be Tuesday of September 11 since the previous events was held on a Tuesday. As far as release date is concerned, the 2018 iPhone models might be released on September 21.

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhone models this year a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, an updated version of 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X, and a larger 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. All the three models are expected to sport an edge-to-edge display design and support for Face ID. The LCD iPhone and 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus are rumored to offer dual-SIM support. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will start at $600, and lead to a huge number of upgrade customers this year.
