The world’s cheapest Android tablet, Aakash, is finally available for users to buy. Datawind, the manufacturer of the sub-$50 tablet, is selling it online at aakashtablet.com for Rs 2,500. Aakash runs on Android 2.2 and features a 7-inch display, a 366MHz processor, 256MB RAM and 2GB of internal storage. However, the tablet has not impressed most tech reviewers (including us) and even the government is now looking at an upgraded version. Call it coincidence but Datawind is also offering a new version of the Ubislate (Aakash’s commercial version) in late-January that will be priced at Rs 2,999 and offer a 700MHz processor, Android 2.3 OS and a better battery along with GPRS connectivity. We are still not convinced why one should buy Aakash. What do you think?
