Yu launched the Yureka Plus yesterday, and one of its USP is its survival capabilities. To highlight this, CEO Rahul Sharma dropped the smartphone off the roof of his office, and has now subjected the smartphone to an extreme scratch test. Sharma reiterates the fact that the Yureka Plus screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, while the body is protected by reinforced chassis and a sturdy polycarbonate back panel. He then goes on to test the Gorilla Glass 3 protected display. He scratches the display with his car key, puts it in a pouch of coins, and also slices a baby corn on top of the screen. Neither of this affects the display in any way.
Sharma though takes things to the next level by putting the smartphone in a grinder. About eight minutes in blender reduces the smartphone to dust. While the initial tests make sense, the last part just seems a waste. You can watch the scratch test in the video embedded below.
Yu launched the Yureka Plus yesterday with a price tag of Rs 9,999. It features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and a microSD card slot.
Also on offer are 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,500mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, it runs on Cyanogen OS 12 based on Android Lollipop.
The smartphone goes on sale via Amazon India on July 24. Registrations for the first sale kicked off yesterday.
