Airtel has been aggressively expanding its 4G footprint in India, and now Vodafone has announced its roll out plans for India as well. The network operator today said that it will launch 4G services by the end of this year. Vodafone India s LTE services will be gradually rolled out with cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Kochi part of the first batch. These circles together contribute close to 50 percent of the total data revenues for Vodafone India. The operator started 4G trials in select circles last month, in preparation for the wider roll out. Vodafone says that it currently has nearly 25 million 4G subscribers across 18 markets. 4G also accounts for 35 percent of data traffic in European markets.
As mentioned above, Airtel is already expanding its 4G footprint, while Reliance Jio Infocomm is expected to roll out its much-awaited 4G services by the end of this year. Idea Cellular, on the other hand, is said to be planning on launching its LTE services in select locations next year.
Furthermore, Vodafone also announced that it will be rolling out 3G in seven new circles. These include Odisha, Assam, North East, UP West, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Kerala. With this roll out, the network operator will expand its 3G footprint to 16 circles across the country.
