After Apple, Google lowers base price of apps on Android Play Store to Rs 10

Developers can now set the price of their apps, games, and in-app products as low as Rs. 10 on @GooglePlay:

Earlier this month, Apple made a few changes to its App Store prices, bringing down the price of the cheapest app to just Rs 10. In what seems like a response to the move, Google too has followed suit.

In India, developers can now price their apps or games for as low as Rs 10, bringing them on par with their iOS counterparts. With the new pricing matrix, apps on the Indian Play Store can now be priced ranging from Rs 10, to Rs 10,000. This also applies to in-app purchases.

With low-cost Android smartphones flooding the Indian market, first-time smartphone users on a short budget will be more willing to pay Rs 10 for an app.

Last month, Google also announced that it would soon be introducing Google Play gift cards in India. These cards will be available in Rs 500, Rs 1,000, and Rs 1,500 denominations, and can be used to purchase apps, music, movies and even books from the Play Store.
