South Korean manufacturers have been tapped by Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi to produce 50,000 Sapphire displays for a limited edition premium smartphone that maybe launched as early as the year end, South Korea’s Economic Times reports. We reported earlier that Apple is also considering using sapphire (more durable and scratch-resistant) screens in more expensive models of the iPhone 6. This is not the first time that Xiaomi has chosen to ape Apple’s design. Often called as the Apple of the East, the Chinese sensation has ripped of many Apple ideas like the Aperture icon, the iOS like interface and much more.
However, even with the mimicry, Xiaomi manages to have a fan base all over the world, including India where the Xiaomi Mi3 has proved to be a major hit.
