Uber today announced a strategic partnership with Airtel. Uber s registered drivers will get highly subsidized mobile phones and 4G data plans from Airtel. These drivers will then use these LTE-capable handsets as Wi-Fi hotspots for commuters to use. Additionally, as mentioned above, this partnership is also adding Airtel Money as another payment option for commuters. Currently Uber offers Paytm mobile wallet, credit cards, debit cards, and even cash payments in select cities. As an introductory offer, commuters who top up their Airtel Money wallet can win up to Rs 500 for free.
Uber has announced that these features will first roll out in Mumbai, followed by other cities.

Earlier this week, Ola announced its new benefits program called Ola Select . As a part of this program frequent commuters will be able to avail benefits like free in-cab Wi-Fi, free upgrades, exclusive promotional offers and discounts from Ola s partners.
Uber recently announced that it will invest $1 billion or Rs 6,400 crores in its Indian operations in the next nine months. Earlier this week, it also announced that Tata Opportunities Fund too plans on investing as much as $100 million in the cab aggregating service.
