After scripts, hackers leak unaired Game of Thrones episodes online

HBO’s servers were recently hacked, in which 1.5TB of its data was stolen.

Games of Thrones is probably one of the most popular world series. American premium cable HBO owns exclusive right to the show, except the show wasn’t exclusive anymore, when earlier this week, HBO’s servers were hacked, and a total of 1.5TB of data leaked. These included personal employee information, and several unaired episodes of Game of Thrones. Soon after the reported hack, the hackers released upcoming episodes of Ballers and Room 104 online, as well as the alleged script to episode four of this Game of Thrones season seven. And now realizing our worst fears, these hacked GoT episodes are now reportedly leaking online.

Although at the time of writing the story, the link to the alleged hackers’ website was inaccessible, a screenshot shared by HackRead reveals a download link for episodes three and four of Games of Thrones Season seven, along with the script for episode four, episodes one through three of Ballers Season three, episode two of Insecure Season two, episode two and three of the newly release series Room 104, as well as episode one and two of HBO’s upcoming series Barry. It has not been confirmed whether the links are real.

“HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information,” the network said in a statement earlier this week. “We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.” ALSO READ: Game of Thrones episode details leaked after HBO hacked

The words “Winter is coming, HBO is falling,” as well as “To be continued” were placed cryptically on the hackers’ site, which could mean more leaks are on their way.

BGR India spoke with Dimitri Sirota, who is the co-founder and CEO of an enterprise privacy management platform. Suggesting what companies can do to thwart such attacks in the future, he said, “There are many traditional approaches that fall into two camps: build walls to block breaches and built towers to detect breaches. What hasn’t really be done is the stuff around better monitoring what’s inside the castle. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan you and watched last episode you know there many ways to penetrate a castle but you don’t know something is wrong until too late. What needs to be done is better tracking and protection of the IP itself.”  ALSO READ: Planning to watch a pirated version of Game of Thrones? HBO is coming
