Amazon Alexa just added All India Radio (AIR) which includes popular Vividh Bharati and 14 other services to its own streaming services. Union minister of state for Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore launched the new service and collaboration with Amazon and said, “Launching of All India Radio’s streaming services on Amazon’s Alexa platform would be a synergy of old and modern forms of communication.”
Amazon’s Alexa provides streaming services which can be accessed using voice commands speakers. This brings AIR to an international platform and makes the content available to anyone around the world using Amazon’s Alexa. This project was announced by Fayyaz Sheheryar, who is the director general at Prasar Bharati-owned AIR back in January.
“Now anyone from any part of the world can listen to the programmes in All India Radio,” said union minister of state Rajyavardhan Rathore. He added that this initiative will be essential in enabling the Indian diaspora around the world to listen AIR’s radio channels.
A Surya Prakash, chairman Prasar Bharati said that that archival assets of AIR will also be made available through the integration with Amazon Alexa. Amazon’s Alexa has access and provides users with music channels including Hindi and other regional languages.
As for Amazon, the company recently expanded its hardware portfolio in India, and has launched an upgraded version of its Fire TV Stick in the country which is dubbed Fire TV Stick 4K.
