AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes has tweeted his condolences to the family and friends of the victims of AirAsia flight QZ8501. Earlier today, the debris and suspected bodies of the passengers were found floating over the Java sea in Indonesia.

The search and rescue team found debris and floating body in the Java Sea around the place where the ill-fated plane had lost contact. Djoko Murjatmodjo, Indonesia’s director general of civil aviation has confirmed that 95 percent of the debris found floating does belong to AirAsia flight QZ8501.

Once the news was made public, Fernandes tweeted, “My heart is filled with sadness for all the families involved in QZ 8501. On behalf of AirAsia my condolences to all. Words cannot express how sorry I am.” He later posted another tweet, “I am rushing to Surabaya. Whatever we can do at Airasia we will be doing.”

On Sunday, Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501 lost contact with Jakarta air traffic at 7:24AM local time (4.43AM IST). The flight had left Juanda International Airport in Surabaya in East Java earlier in the morning at 5:20AM and was expected to arrive in Singapore at 8:30AM.

The flight pilot “was requesting deviation due to en-route weather before communication with the aircraft was lost,” the airline said in a statement. The aircraft was flying at 32,000 feet before the pilot asked if the flight should be taken above 38,000 feet to avoid clouds.

As a mark of respect to the 155 passengers and seven crew members who were onboard, AirAsia changed the company’s logo from red to grey on its Twitter and Facebook pages.
