Airtel has announced that its carrier-based music app Wynk Music reached a milestone of 5 million downloads in just six months since launch. The app is neatly categorized and well integrated with the Airtel system, and has also been previously featured in Google Play Store’s ‘Favorite Apps’ section.
Wynk Music has been able to gain a good traction amongst users thanks to its ad-free music experience, unlimited cache downloads, purchasing individual tracks with DRM rights and also the option for Airtel subscribers to set their favorite music as a caller tune. The last update also brought with it Google Chromecast support, allowing users to mirror the app on their TV screens.
Wynk Music boasts 1.8 million Indian and International songs, and Airtel has also joined hands with Sony Music label so as to allow users to experience exclusive music previews. According to Airtel, Honey Singh topped the list as the most searched artist trailed by Akon and Lata Mangeshkar.
Roy was the most streamed album and the experts’ playlists were more popular than individual albums, with 33 percent more clicks. It’s not surprising that ‘Romantic Mood’ commands a higher degree of popularity amongst the mood based playlists.
Mumbai topped as the city with maximum users followed by Delhi and Karnataka. The company further reveals that the app has witnessed maximum clicks between 9:00PM and 12:00PM. This statistics can be attributed to the fact that most of the people will be commuting at these hours.
Wynk Plus subscribers plan is available for only Rs 29 (for non-Airtel users Rs 99) and lets users to not only stream the songs but also download them to play it offline thus helping them save on the data costs. Airtel Wynk currently rivals music streaming apps like Gaana and Saavn.
