Alcatel took the wraps off its Idol 4 flagship smartphone at MWC 2016 in Barcelona. Now, the company is planning on launching the device in India. The company has sent out media invites for a launch scheduled on December 8 in New Delhi. The invite clearly mentions that the Idol 4 along with the VR headset will be launching. The Idol 4, as the name suggests, is the successor to last year’s Idol 3. The smartphone features a glass body and metal frame to add to the premium look of the phone. It is likely to be available in gold, rose gold, metal silver and dark gray color variants. One of the talking points on design front is what the company calls ‘Boom Key’. The feature enables users to get a quick shortcuts to several tasks. So, for instance, when in standby mode, pressing the button “Boom my camera” lets you shoot photos. Among the highlights of the smartphone is its audio capabilities. The Idol 4 boasts a pair of 3.6-watt multi-directional speakers with Hi-Fi support enhanced by Waves Audio Technology. The smartphone’s packaging also doubles up as a VR headset.
Alcatel Idol 4 specifications
The Alcatel Idol 4 features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. There is also 16GB onboard storage, which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card.
On the camera front, the Idol 4 sports a 13-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, and EIS support for video recording. Up front, there is a front-facing wide-angle 8-megapixel camera with LED flash. The smartphone is armed with a 2,610mAh battery and QuickCharge support. It offers connectivity features like dual-SIM card slots (hybrid setup), 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11n. The Idol 4 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with Alcatel’s custom UI running on top, out-of-the-box.
At MWC, Alcatel also took the wraps off the Idol 4S smartphone. But there’s currently no word on whether this premium smartphone too will be launched in India this week. The Idol 4S flaunts a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage, and a microSD card slot.
It also comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel selfie camera with LED flash, 3,000mAh battery with QuickCharge feature, and connectivity options like 4G LTE, support, NFC, and Wi-Fi.
