TCL-owned Alcatel could be launching a new variant of its Idol 5S smartphone at the upcoming IFA 2017 trade show in Berlin. Alcatel had launched the Idol 5S, A30 Plus, and the A50 smartphones in the US earlier this June. The European variant of the Idol 5S, however, comes with a slightly different design and chipset compared to the one launched in the US.
According to the leaked renders (via Roland Quandt) of the Idol 5S, the smartphone appears to feature a display with almost no bezels. The display is believed to have an aspect ratio of 16:9. The US version of the Idol 5S features thick bezels on the top and bottom. The two speaker grilles are visible on the top and bottom of the display, and the earpiece plus front camera lens on top. As opposed to the US version of the Idol 5S, the antenna lines on this model are placed on the sides of the smartphone. There’s a power button on the right side of the smartphone, which isn’t present in the US Idol 5S variant. The volume rocker sits above the power button.
The smartphone has also been spotted on benchmarking website GFXBench, revealing some key specifications. To start with, the Idol 5S features a 5.2-inch Full HD display. Under its hood, runs a MediaTek MT6757 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.3GHz, and paired with Mali-T880 GPU. The smartphone comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. For photography, the Idol 5S sports a 12-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Its connectivity options include single SIM, Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat. ALSO READ: Alcatel A3 10 with Android 7.0 Nougat launched in India, priced at Rs 9,999: Specifications, features
