Alcatel has already confirmed that it will be launching its new products at the upcoming MWC in Barcelona starting next week. The company has already sent out media invites for a ‘Light Up’ event, scheduled to take place on February 27. Alcatel is expected to launch as many as five smartphones. Whileone of the smartphones is said to be the Idol 5, new reports suggest that alongside the Idol 5, the company will also launch the Idol 5S. The Alcatel Idol 5S was spotted on benchmarking siteGeekbench, revealing very few few details about the phone. Last year, the company unveiled the Idol 4 and Idol 4S smartphone at the MWC 2016. The listing, spotted by GSMarena, confirms that the Idol 5S will, just like its successor, will come with an affordable price tag. Apart from that, the Alcatel Idol 5S scored 824 points in single-core test while in multi-core test its score stands at 3421 points. At the heart, the smartphone is said to come with Helio P20 1.69 GHz octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. On the software front, the handset is said to run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. On the other hand, the Idol 5 is said to come with a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash. It will be powered by a MediaTek octa-core processor. Leaks suggest that the smartphone will cost around €320, which is Rs 27,400 approximately.
Apart from the technical specifications, the smartphone is also rumored to come with modular functionality similar to the Motorola’s Moto Z. Rumors says that the Alcatel Mod is said to glow in different colors in sync with the music played on the smartphone. The functionality is believed to be similar to the JBL Pulse speakers.
In comparison, the Idol 4 smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch full HD IPS display with 2D glass on top. Under its hood runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 processor with Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, EIS and dual-LED flash. There is also an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is powered by a 2,610mAh battery and it runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
The Idol 4S flaunts a 5.5-inch AMOLED display. Under the hood, the smartphone features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 512GB. The smartphone features a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash. Armed with a 3,000mAh and QuickCharge feature and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with Alcatel’s custom UI running atop.
