BlackBerry is expected to launch six smartphones running on BB10 this year, which has so far seen only two devices – the Z10 and Q10 – both of which are in the high-end segment. This new model is expected to be a follow up of the Curve series which usually comprises of the mid-range smartphones. Considering this, the R-series phone may also fall in the mid-range category like its predecessors, and come with BlackBerry QWERTY keypad.
In another report posted by BlackBerryEmpire, there is a sketch of the model being highlighted showing that this R-series model will have a side mounted SIM and microSD card slots. If true, this would be the first BlackBerry model to feature an externally accessed hot swappable SIM port given on the side panel of the device. It is also reported to have a less RAM and feature 8GB of internal storage. The report suggests BlackBerry could launch this phone in Q3 or Q4 at $300 – $400 off-contract price.
