Xiaomi only recently launched the Redmi Pro smartphone in China boasting a dual-camera setup. Now it seems close to launching the Redmi 4 smartphone. While this isn’t the first Redmi 4 leak we have come across, this is the first time we get a look at what the upcoming smartphone could look like. In addition to the Redmi 4, a smartphone with dual-edged curved display too has been spotted online, which reports claim is the long-rumored Mi Edge. The overall design of the Redmi 4 is not surprisingly quite similar to what we have seen on recent Redmi series smartphones. The biggest change is the presence of 2.5D curved display, which would be a first for Redmi series. At the back is the fingerprint scanner, but unlike the Redmi Pro, there is no dual-camera setup. Based on the leaks we have come across so far, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 is expected to feature a 5-inch display, and MediaTek’s Helio X20 deca-core chipset under the hood. As the name suggests, this upcoming smartphone will replace the Xiaomi Redmi 3 that was launched earlier this year. It features a 5-inch HD (720p) display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 616 octa-core chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage that is expandable using a microSD card. It also comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF support, 5-megapixel selfie camera, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, and 4G LTE support. The smartphone was launched for 699 Yuan in China, which is approximately Rs 7,000.
While Xiaomi’s Redmi series of smartphones has been hogging the limelight recently, it is the other leaked photo that has us intrigued. The Mi Edge has been on the rumor mills since last year, and it is expected to be a flagship device with Samsung Galaxy S7-edge like dual-edged curved display. While there’s not a lot known about the Mi Edge, another report claims that Xiaomi might opt for a similar curved screen for the upcoming Mi Note 2 as well.
There’s currently no word on a launch timeframe, and as with such leaks we will advise you to take it with the proverbial pinch of salt. In the meantime, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 3s, and Redmi 3s Prime smartphones in India yesterday. The Redmi 3s with 16GB storage and 2GB of RAM is priced at Rs 6,999, while the Redmi 3s Prime with 32GB storage, 3GB of RAM and fingerprint scanner is priced at Rs 8,999.
