Coinciding with Google’s list of announcements, including the Google Home Mini, Amazon has launched the Amazon Echo Dot in India. In addition, the company has also launched the Amazon Echo and, Amazon Echo Plus.
It goes without saying that the products will be available via Amazon India. To purchase any product, simply request an invitation to purchase on the Amazon site.
In terms of pricing, the Amazon Echo is priced at Rs 9,999; the Echo Plus will be available for Rs 14,999; while the Echo Dot will set you back by Rs 4,499. Amazon also revealed that it will be launching its in-house Prime Music service very soon in India. However, the service will be exclusive to Echo.
As a part of the introductory offer, users who requested an invite will receive 30 percent off on the purchase price of Echo devices along with one year of Prime membership for free. According to a report on Gadgets360, if you are already a Prime member, Amazon may extend your membership by one year, or provide a cashback. The devices will start shipping in India later this month, and Alexa and Echo will be available in Japan later this year. Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Plus are voice-controlled speakers that are famously known for having Amazon’s artificial intelligence (AI) personal assistant Alexa built in. They allow users to talk to the speaker to carry out tasks such playing music or setting reminders. From making phone calls, controlling your smart home, controlling your TV to play music Alex is trained to do everything. Alexa uses Spotify as the default player. All the speakers need to be tethered to a power source at all times.
It is still unclear whether Alexa will understand Hindi or users will need to speak in English. However, Amazon claims that Alexa voice assistant has been customized for the Indian audience, which supports local pronunciations. It also supports local music titles, names and places. The company said Indian developers have been working on to provide skills, apps that allow developers to add personalized features and capabilities. More than 10,000 skills will be available to customers in India. Users will be able to access music streaming from Saavn, ESPNcricinfo, Ola cabs and Uber, Zomato and Freshmenu to name a few. India is the fourth market after the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany where Amazon has officially made Alexa and its smart speakers available, the company said.
