During the ongoing Amazon Great Indian Festival, OnePlus has emerged as the biggest smartphone brand. According to Amazon India, the Chinese smartphone maker witnessed its biggest ever sales in the first 35 hours of the sale live for consumers.
OnePlus witnessed 400 crores worth of smartphones being booked within 36 hours of the sale going live. Amazon says in comparison with last year’s Great Indian Festival, the booking for OnePlus smartphones grew five times on its platform. “Within 36 hours, the brand has witnessed over INR 400 crores worth of smartphone bookings which include this year’s flagship, the OnePlus 6 and pre-bookings for their upcoming device, the OnePlus 6T. After 5 months since its launch in May, OnePlus 6 remains the highest grossing and best-selling premium smartphone ever on Amazon.in,” the e-commerce giant said in a released statement.
The sales could have been driven by massive discount of Rs 5,000 on OnePlus 6, the current flagship smartphone from OnePlus. Ahead of the Great Indian Festival, Amazon India had confirmed that OnePlus 6 will start at Rs 29,999, which is a discount of nearly 14 percent over its retail price of Rs 34,999.
According to IDC, OnePlus is the leading smartphone brand in the premium smartphone segment in India. Despite being introduced only in May, OnePlus 6 was the best-selling smartphone in the premium segment and with the company set to launch OnePlus 6T on October 30, there is a possibility that it will discontinue sales of OnePlus 6.
It is not immediately clear how many units of OnePlus 6 did Amazon India sell during the first 36 hours of Great Indian Festival sale. But, just few hours after the sale commenced, the OnePlus 6 with 6GB RAM and 64GB available for Rs 29,999, went out of stock. Amazon India was only selling the 8GB RAM variant with 128GB storage and 256GB storage for Rs 34,999 and Rs 38,999 respectively. Both the models got discount of Rs 5,000 during the sale.
