Amazon has finally opened its windows for buyers and sellers in India as the company has today discreetly launched its popular e-commerce marketplace operational for Indian customers. The website with the domain name Amazon.in is selling books and movies and TV shows for now but will soon put electronic devices like mobile phones, cameras and more on sale as well.
The online book store will come with over 7 million print books across 200 plus categories including fiction, management, children’s books and academic publications, from national as well as international authors. The movies and TV shows catalogue includes over 12,000 titles in English and Hindi across DVDs, Blu-rays, 3D Blu-rays and Video CD formats.
Early last year, Amazon started operating in India with Junglee.com, however was restricted in accessibility for its customers. Using this, the retailers in India could advertise their products for free to other Indian shoppers and drive targeted traffic to their stores. Amazon attempts to push the envelope with its online portal in India as the marketplace will allow online sellers to put up their products on sale without paying a listing fee and a pay-as-you-go fulfilment services. The online shopping portal will also provide electronic payments, cash on delivery and easy return options to consumers.
The interesting part is that on its launch in India Amazon is offering a free delivery promotional offer which the company says will be valid for a limited period only.
