Only a few days ago we reported about Amazon India testing a Hindi interface for its mobile app and website, and now the e-commerce giant has rolled out the Hindi Language support for its app on Android devices. The new initiative will help Amazon target the next 100 million e-commerce users, emerging in the rural markets across the country.
Those who want to change the language on the Amazon App can simply do so by clicking on the Menu button placed on top-left corner of the screen. The language button here gives you the option to switch from English to Hindi and vice-versa.
Amazon claims that customers will now be able to read detailed product information, read deals and discounts, place orders, pay for orders, and even track them with Hindi interface. User can also manage their account information and view order history in the language. Amazon claims to have employed a team of language experts and translators that have chosen commonly used terms over perfectly translated words to make the shopping experience seem more familiar and relatable.
That said, not all the elements have been transported to Hindi yet. The product search and the delivery address data fields still use English. However, Amazon plans to keep on making changes in the next few months to adapt these and other elements such as product reviews, ratings, question and answers in Hindi as well.
Kishore Thota, Director of Customer Experience and Marketing, Amazon India stated in a press release, “Getting Indian languages right in a shopping context is hard but an interesting opportunity. We combined both human effort to craft the right experience and AI to scale this experience across the vast selection available at Amazon. We are just getting started, look to learning and getting better.”

At the moment, the Hindi interface is only available for Android app and mobile website. While Amazon hasn’t mentioned anything about it, the iOS app and desktop website can also be expected to get the same treatment soon.
