Amazon has introduced a new feature called Alexa Cast, a control for users to decide what s playing on their Alexa-enabled speakers from their phones. The e-commerce giant says that its abilities are very limited as of now and only works with the Amazon Music app to control music playback.
The update by Amazon is already out and now users with Amazon Music app on Android and iOS will see an icon for Alexa Cast on the Now Playing screen. With Alexa Cast, the Amazon Music app will stay in sync with what s playing on your Echo speakers, and you’ll be able to control music remotely.
After music control, we hope that sooner or later it will get extended to movies, podcasts, and more. While Amazon hasn t announced about Alexa Cast’s future plan, The Verge has got a comment from the spokesperson saying, “we ll continue to improve this feature and expand support over time.
As of now, Alexa Cast works with any Alexa-enabled device, which means it supports all Echo speakers, third-party Alexa products, and a few Amazon Fire devices. So if you have Amazon Music subscription and any of the Alexa-enabled device, you can start using this feature right away.
In another Amazon related news, the company is reportedly working on an Alexa-powered third-generation Echo Dot speaker with overhauled design. In leaked images, it can be seen taking more curvy design approach and a fabric frame inspired from the Google Home Mini, which is the main competitor to the Echo Dot. The speaker is said to be in testing by Amazon employees and is expected to launch within the next couple of months.
