Amazon has today launched an all-new Kindle Paperwhite boasting a high-resolution display, and a new font. There is however no change in the price tag, so in essence the Wi-Fi variant is priced at Rs 10,999 and the Wi-Fi+3G variant is priced at Rs 13,999.

The upgraded Kindle Paperwhite boasts a high-resolution display with 300 pixels per inch, and is also twice as sharp as last-generation e-reader. Interestingly, the display is now on par with the high-res display on the more expensive Kindle Voyage.

Furthermore, the new Paperwhite is the first e-reader in Amazon’s lineup to support the Bookerly typeface. This new font was introduced on the Fire tablets and iOS app, and is specifically designed for e-readers. It adjusts character spacing within words, and is also better suited to handle larger fonts.

The fact that Amazon has not changed the price tag of the Paperwhite proves to be an interesting conundrum for buyers. With similar displays, the differentiating factors now include the flush bezels, ambient light sensors, and PagePress. The last feature lets users go back and forth pages without lifting their thumb or fingers. One can touch either side of the display or now just press predefined spots cloned on either side of display bezel.

But are these new features worth the extra buck? The Kindle Voyage is priced at Rs 16,499 for the Wi-Fi variant and Rs 20,499 for the Wi-Fi+3G variant. The new Kindle Paperwhite goes on sale on June 30, and pre-orders for the new e-reader has gone live on Amazon India.
