Amazon India has quietly started offering a monthly subscription plan for Amazon Prime in the country, after initially launching the service with only the option of a yearly subscription. Users can now opt to pay and use Amazon Prime monthly at Rs 129/month, or continue to opt for the yearly subscription package at Rs 999/year.
The Amazon Prime service in India offers a handful of benefits for the subscription price, including free fast delivery, where one-day and two-day delivery options are not charged separately on select ‘Amazon Fulfilled’ items purchased on the site, no minimum order size, as well as access to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Prime Music streaming services. Early access to certain deals is also offered to Prime members, as well as certain other discounts and benefits.

The service was launched back in late 2016, and was priced at Rs 499/year initially. The Amazon Prime Video and Music services were added later as a value addition, and did not require additional fees or subscriptions over and above the basic Prime subscription. The price of the annual subscription was later bumped up to Rs 999/year.
A monthly subscription to the service will be particularly useful for users looking to try out the service before signing up for a whole year. However, if you intend to use the service in the long run, it is more affordable to remain on the annual subscription plan, since the monthly fees over the year total to Rs 1,548. Existing Prime users too will likely prefer remaining on the annual plan. The service is particularly useful if you make a lot of purchases on Amazon, as well as if you use the video and music streaming services.
