It seems that Xiaomi may launch its Redmi Note 2 Prime smartphone in India. Speculations are rife after e-commerce site Amazon put up a dedicated page for an upcoming Xiaomi device with a teaser stating – #PrimeIsComing.
However, India Today citing ‘people aware of Xiaomi’s plans for India’ says the company is unlikely to launch the Note 2 Prime in India. According to the publication, Xiaomi may launch a new smartphone, but it will not be the Redmi Note 2 Prime.
Speculations about the launch of Redmi Note 2 Prime come shortly after Xiaomi entered into a patent licensing agreement with Qualcomm. The agreement was considered to help Xiaomi sell its entire range of devices in India. It may be recalled that Xiaomi had been barred from selling MediaTek-based smartphones in India following a patent tussle with Ericsson.
The Redmi Note 2 Prime was launched in China alongside the Redmi Note 2 in August this year. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch full HD display. The smartphone runs Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7 out-of-the-box. It is powered by a 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor paired with 2GB of RAM, and comes with 32GB internal storage.
For photography, the Note 2 Prime features a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support and Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The smartphone is powered by a 3,060 mAh battery.
