First launched in 2014, the smart wireless speaker is voice-controlled and its many skills include requesting a cab, ordering food, playing music, reading news, setting alarms and much more. Now, according to a report, the smart speaker will be launched in India this year. The company is putting together content and localizing the service, people familiar with the matter told FactorDaily. It is expected to be launched sometime towards the second half of 2017. However, Amazon is keeping mum about Echo s India launch. As a company policy, Amazon doesn t comment on what they may or may not do in the future, an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement to BGR India. Although people living in India could still import the Echo speaker, but functionalities are limited. With the rumored launch in the country, the home speaker will be capable of delivering local content, such as traffic data from Indian cities, playing regional songs, and more.
