Amazon has launched a new Android app called Amazon Underground. It comes with everything you would find in the normal Amazon and a revamped store for Android games and apps. The USP of this app is that it lets you download premium Android games and apps costing $10,000 (approximately Rs 6.6 lakhs) for free. Amazon Underground section lets you download your favorite games and apps along with in-app purchases. Some popular titles include Frozen Free Fall, Star Wars Rebels: Recon and Angry Birds Slingshot Stella. This includes all game chapters, options, weapons, energy boost and other items that can help you advance in the games that you are playing. To make this happen, the e-commerce giant has partnered with thousands of developers. With this new business model, Amazon will be paying the game and app developers on per-minute basis. Developers will waive off their regular app and in-app fees and get paid for every minute the user uses their app. This also replaces Amazon’s earlier “free app of the day” program with “actually free” apps and games. Similar to Amazon Appstore, you won’t be able to download the Amazon Underground app from Play Store. You’ll have to download and install the app from Amazon’s website. To download Amazon Underground, head over to amazon.com/underground on your Android smartphone. This will download the APK file of the app.
Here’s how to install Amazon Underground
To install the app, first go to Settings > Security / Applications > Check the Unknown Sources box. Now browse to the “downloads” folder and look for the Amazon_App.apk. Tap on this file, install the app and sign-in using your Amazon account.
Inside the app, tap on the hamburger / three lines on top left corner of the screen and look for “Apps and Games”. The games and apps tagged under “Actually Free” banner are the ones that offer free in-app purchases.
Note – The “games and apps” section of the store is only available in the US region. Still, if you want to use it in India, simply head over to settings, change your region to the US and you’re good to go.
