Amazon unveiled the new Kindle with 20 percent faster processor and double on-device storage. But the biggest change is that, for the first time, the basic Kindle has a touchscreen. The new Kindle is now available for pre-order in India for Rs 5,999 and starts shipping on October 9.
The touchscreen Kindle holds a 6-inch grey scale display with pixel density of 167 ppi. It weighs 191 grams and comes with 4GB of on device storage with free cloud storage for all Amazon content. Apart from being faster, it includes new features like FreeTime, Page Flip, better integration with GoodReads, X-ray vocabulary builder and dictionary lookup.
Amazon claims that the battery lasts for up to four weeks on a single charge. They further state that the new Kindle fully charges in approximately four hours from a computer via USB cable. A separate adapter to charge without a computer is not shipped with the device and has to be purchased separately. It supports Wi-Fi and Amazon provides one year warranty with the device.
Kindle can be used in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
