An AI writes a screenplay for a short sci-fi film called 'Sunspring'

After being fed data of sci-fi screenplays, the AI wrote a screenplay which isn’t half bad.

If all the sci-fi TV series and movies are to be believed, Artificial Intelligence is likely to take over the world. But ever wondered what kind of picture will an AI paint if it was asked to write a screenplay for a movie or TV series? Turns out it has happened. An AI, which named itself Benjamin, has written the screenplay for a sci-fi short film, called Sunspring, which can be watched on YouTube. The AI was created by technologist Ross Goodwin after filmmaker Oscar Sharp told him about his dream of collaborating with an AI on a screenplay, Ars Technica reports. The AI was authored by a recurrent neutral network called long short-term memory (LSTM). For the script, the AI was fed data of sci-fi screenplays mostly from the 1980s and 90s. Similarly, it was also fed data of 30,000 pop songs after which it composed a pop song that is featured in the movie.

The nine-minute film is pretty absurd and you ll probably have a question mark on your face the entire time you re watching it. The story takes place in a near future and has three characters, including Silicon Valley s Thomas Middleditch. The dialogues mostly involve the phrase, I don t know, and as the story develops, it can be understood that the plot is possibly about a love triangle. The film was made for the 48-hour Film Challenge at the Sci-Fi London festival.
