ZTE launched the Axon 7 as its flagship smartphone back in 2016. Nearly two years later, the smartphone is close to getting the latest Android Oreo beta update. The beta update for Axon 7 is said to be bundled with Google s January security patch. This makes ZTE among the first OEMs to roll out the latest security patch for its smartphone. The Axon 7 was launched back in May 2016 running Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The smartphone was then updated to Android 7.0 Nougat last year. While the beta update is being rolled out now, ZTE has already said that the stable build would take time to reach users, AndroidHeadlines reports. Apart from the Axon 7, ZTE is also expected to roll out Oreo to the Axon 7 mini and Axon 7s smartphones. The beta rollout is currently restricted to the US market only, with no word on when other countries will get the update.

The ZTE Axon 7 sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED WQHD (2560 1440) display, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC paired with an Adreno 530 GPU. The smartphone was launched in three variants 64GB variant with 4GB of RAM, 128GB variant with 4GB of RAM, and 128GB variant with 6GB of RAM.
For photography, the smartphone is equipped with a 20-megapixel rear camera sporting f/1.8 aperture, OIS, PDAF support, and a dual-LED flash. Up front, the smartphone has an 8-megapixel selfie camera with front flash.
The rest of the features include 3,250mAh battery with Quick-charge 3.0 support, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support, and USB Type-C port.
