Andy Rubin it seems will finally be working on real robots, and that too with Google, after he had stepped down as Android’s head in March this year. The New York Times report claims that Google has acquired seven robot companies for a secret robot-based project, and has appointed Android’s founder Andy Rubin as the head of this initiative. This news comes soon after Amazon’s Jeff Benzos’ recent disclosure of their drone-based delivery project. The report has quoted Rubin hinting towards the new assignment without revealing any details.

Google already has an X lab which is basically about the company’s out-of-the-box projects including self-operating cars and even the balloon-powered Internet project. However, this new robotic tech could be spun off as a new division all together, Rubin told the publication. He has started looking for the appropriate people for this project, which will run from Google’s offices in both Palo Alto and Japan.

Rubin has also been quoted saying that “I have a history of making my hobbies into a career,” hinting towards the real robotic tech and his passion for the same. However, Rubin also mentioned that one such project would take its own research time for development and also require foresight for the tech, and said that “Like any moonshot, you have to think of time as a factor.. We need enough runway and a 10-year vision.”

There is no clarity on what exactly would be the final product like, though Robin hinted that the robotic creation would come with human like capabilities of moving, grabbing or reaching to something or someplace.
