There has been quite a bit of speculation surrounding what the next version of Android could be called. While names like Lollipop and Lemon Meringue Pie have done the rounds, a new contender has now been thrown into the mix. A Google+ post by Giovanni Calabrese, gives a subtle hint that the forthcoming version of Android could be called Licorice. Calabrese is one of the designers at Google who builds Android statues that adorn the Googleplex in Mountain View. His post reads, I never had a great liking for Licorice, but damn! there are some great flavors out there !!! Also Read - Samsung and LG confirm presence at in-person CES 2022
While this is by no means definite evidence that the next version of Android would be called Licorice, it is too much of a coincidence nonetheless. If anyone, Calabrese is the man who will have inside knowledge of what the next Android version could be called. Google is however good at keeping its cards very close to its heart, and we will only know the name of the next Android version when it releases the operating system.
This is more bad news for the guys who have been lobbying for the next Android version being named after an Indian dessert. The guys who were campaigning for Android Kaju Katli last year, have been lobbying for Android Ladoo this time. Android chief Sundar Pichai too has acknowledged the campaign, but seems like we will have to wait for another year to see an Android version named after an Indian dessert.
Google is believed to be unveiling the new Nexus devices later this week on October 16, and Android L too could be released on the same day.
