Google might soon integrate Google Assistant into Android Messages for you to get the better of messaging app with features like suggested messages, and voice commands. The search giant is reportedly testing Google Assistant for Android Messages app, reports XDADevelopers.

Google Assistant was first used in Allo messaging app, and report notes that this Android Messages app integration is going to work similarly to how Google Assistant worked in Allo. Allo was launched two years ago, and Google recently suggested that it is “pausing investments” in Allo because the “product as a whole has not achieved the level of traction.”

Now as per XDADevelopers, Google Assistant in Android Messages will work similarly as it did in Allo app, but without the ability to talk to the Assistant directly. As of now, it is said to suggest recommended things only. The app so far is reportedly taking commands to recommend weather and restaurants. But as it appears to be an early stages of testing, we hope Google will enhance more functionality in further development, and expect the changes in UI and features too.

The move seems in-sync with Google’s plan of going all in on Rich Communication Services (RCS). These smart replies in Android Messages with digital voice Assistant will be very helpful for recommendations.

Google had dropped hints about Android Messages when Allo investment discontinuation news came to light in April. The Head of communications group at Google, Anil Sabharwal, then said that the company will move Allo’s team over to focus on Android Messages, but Allo will still continue to function for existing users.
