Google s Snapchat account, moments before revealing the name, was filled with snaps of all the recent Androids starting from Froyo to Marshmallow. It continued the suspense by showing a desk where the potential names were written on post-its and all I could see was Neyyappam and Naankhatai. Google finally revealed the name by unveiling the classic green Android bot sitting on top of giant Nougats.
Nougat is a sweet made from sugar or honey, roasted nuts and basically everything sweet. It even has a French aura to it as it has a French pronunciation called nu-ga. The front-runners for the name were Nutella, Nori along with Neyyappam and Naankhatai, which are Indian sweet dishes and were heavily campaigned for on Twitter. Earlier Android s Senior VP Hiroshi Lockheimer even tweeted hinting that Android N could be Nutella.
Google had begun this competition at its I/O event which took place last month. As the competition began, Google was trolled quite a lot, especially on Twitter and for their own joke of naming Android N NameyMcNameFace. This competition though had a lot hopes up for Indians as their support went on to the Kerala government campaigning for Android N to be named Neyyappam.
