Andy Rubin’s Essential company launched its first smartphone in May this year, called the PH-1. While there have been reports about delay in shipments to customers in the US, it appears that the company is already working on a new smartphone.
A new device with the model number A11 has been spotted at the Wi-Fi Alliance (via Ubergizmo) possibly hinting that a launch could be close. Details are scarce at the moment, and the only thing known is that this upcoming device will run on Android Nougat 7.1.1 out-of-the-box. With the first Essential Phone being a high-end offering, rumors suggest that the Essential A11 smartphone could be an affordable offering. It is however still early days, and we would suggest you take this leak with the proverbial pinch of salt.
Andy Rubin’s Essential smartphone missed its June release date in the US, and suffered a bit of a blow in recent days after its VP of marketing, Brian Wallace, left the company. However, the company is said to be working on launching its flagship device in other markets — specifically the UK, Europe and Japan. While reports suggest that the company is already in talks with UK carriers looking for an exclusivity deal, there is still no tentative launch date as yet. The smartphone comes with a charging dock that will connect with small metal pins. The smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch QHD display with Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The smartphone comes with 19:10 display and has an edge-to-edge design. Another USP of the phone is that it is made of titanium and ceramic. One of the add-ons is a 360-degree camera that can shoot spherical UHD video at 30fps. Other features include Android Nougat 7.1.1, a rear fingerprint sensor and Bluetooth 5.0. The Essential phone is available for $699 (Rs 44, 900 approximately) or $749 (Rs 48,900 approximately) with the 360-degree camera accessory. However, there is no word if the smartphone will make its way to the Indian market.
