While benchmark scores aren’t necessarily everything, they do give us a fair indication of where most smartphones stand when it comes to performance. One of the most popular benchmarking tools for smartphones is AnTuTu, which has for a while now been publishing monthly rankings based on the average scores gathered by devices on its platform. The October 2018 rankings see a new champion at the top, or new champions in the top three. Furthermore, all of the devices on the list run 2018 chipsets. Do note that some new devices, including the OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 aren’t on the list this month, since they are new launches. We take a look at the top ten for October 2018. #1, #2, #3: Huawei Mate 20 Series
The new Huawei Mate 20 series, consisting of the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X, have topped the rankings and now occupy the top three positions. The phones are powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC, which was announced at IFA this year. The Kirin 980 chipset is, for the time being, exclusive to Huawei and Honor smartphones, with the Mate 20 series being the first devices to be powered by it.

#4, #5: Xiaomi Black Shark and Black Shark Helo
The previous list topper, the Xiaomi Black Shark got a upgrade in the form of the Black Shark Helo, which was launched last month. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and coming with up to 10GB of RAM, the Black Shark Helo takes the fourth spot, with the previous Black Shark sitting in fifth. The gaming-centric devices are built for better gaming, and hence perform well on AnTuTu.

#6: Meizu 16
Sitting in sixth place is another Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone, the Meizu 16. The phone comes with up to 8GB of RAM, and also features an under-display fingerprint sensor. The phone runs Android Oreo.

#7: OnePlus 6
Launched in May this year, the OnePlus 6 was among the earliest devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. You get up to 8GB of RAM on the phone, and it has now been updated to Android 9 Pie as well. The OnePlus 6T is now out, but given that it’s launched with largely the same hardware, we’re unlikely to see a change in the scores for now.

#8: Asus ROG Phone
Another dedicated gaming smartphone, the Asus ROG Phone was also announced earlier this year and built around performance. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and comes with 8GB of RAM and Android Oreo.

#9: Smartisan R1
This isn’t a brand we’ve heard much about and has never been present in India unlike the others on the list, but the Smartisan R1 makes the list thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, up to 8GB RAM, and up to a massive 1TB of internal storage. The phone was launched in May this year.

#10: Nubia Z18
ZTE-owned Nubia is the final entry in the top ten, with the Nubia Z18 completing the list. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and comes with up to 8GB of RAM. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo, and was launched in September.
