Apple is set to launch three new iPhone models at an event in California on September 12. The new smartphones are expected to sport a design similar to that of iPhone X and pricing could start at $699. A new report from Macerkpof citing sources who claim to be familiar with the pricing for upcoming iPhone lineup, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will start at $699. The report adds that the iPhone Xs, the rumored successor to last year’s iPhone X will start at $800. This should come as a surprise considering Apple iPhones have never been known for being cheap and the iPhone X started at $999 last year. The pricing for new models detailed by 9to5Mac suggests that the $699 LCD iPhone will replace iPhone 8 while the iPhone Xs will take the place of iPhone 8 Plus in the iterative update cycle. Macerkopf says that Apple will sell the LCD iPhone, likely to be named iPhone 9 for 799 (around Rs 66,750). The iPhone Xs is rumored to be priced at 909 (around Rs 76,000) while the iPhone Xs Max could set users back by 1,149 (around Rs 96,000).
The pricing seems to be inline with former KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had predicted early this year. Kuo beleives the LCD iPhone will start at $599 for the standard variant with single-SIM support while the model with dual-SIM support could be priced at $699. Macerkopf does not reveal whether we are looking at the price of single-SIM or dual-SIM models.
In the past, we have seen that pricing is a sketchy area and these prices should be taken for what it is worth. Also, the pricing will not necessarily mean that the devices will retail at same price around the world. Apple is not known for maintaining an inline pricing in different markets.
Apple sells the iPhone 8 for 799 in Germany while the iPhone 8 Plus is priced at 909. The iPhone X is priced at 1149 and Macerkopf might be using these benchmarks to corroborate pricing for upcoming models as well. If the pricing shared here sticks then we are looking at Apple cutting down the price of its devices a bit this year and offering improved design and features.
Watch: Apple iPhone X Video Review
While we have already heard rumors and features of the upcoming iPhone models, it is not immediately clear how Apple plans to name them. There are reports of the LCD model being called the iPhone 9 while the two other models could be called as iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max. Apple could charge $150 premium for the models with 256GB storage in comparison with the base model.
While the pricing mentioned for the LCD model seem possible, the $799 or 909 price for the iPhone X does not seem realistic. Apple is known for premium pricing even on its entry-level devices and this pricing might completely undercut the average selling price. Analysts see Apple selling more phones during the fourth quarter of this year due to strong demand for the LCD model.
