It has been quite a while, but if latest rumors are anything to go by, the much-awaited wireless charging accessories from Apple will be hitting the shelves in March. The company is speculated to launch AirPower, which is a wireless charging mat, and the wireless charging case for AirPods in the coming month. A tipster has reportedly claimed that retailers and Apple authorized resellers will start selling the wireless charging accessories in March. The wireless case for the AirPods will be packaged with the wireless AirPods. It is also rumored that American electronics chain, Best Buy, will start online an in-store sales of the accessories on the same day as Apple, Apple Insider reports. However, given that Apple has not officially announced the availability of the accessories, it is advisable to take the information with the proverbial pinch of salt. At the time of writing, the official apple.com website listed the optional wireless charging case and the AirPower mat as “coming in 2018”.
The AirPower wireless charging mat is an inductive charging pad that can charge multiple devices compatible with the wireless charging format. It can simultaneously charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and the standard AirPods case.
Official pricing of the accessories is unknown, but if past reports are to be believed, then the AirPower charging mat could cost $199 (approximately Rs 12,800), and Apple could charge $69 (approximately Rs 4,500) for a wireless AirPods case replacement.
Meanwhile, Apple will be accepting Alibaba-backed Alipay as a mode of payment for purchases made at the physical Apple Stores in China. This is the first time a third-party mobile payment system will be supported at an Apple Store. It also indicates Apple s push for stronger ties with Alibaba as it aims to revive growth in the highly lucrative Chinese smartphone market.
