Apple last week introduced three new Apple iPhones along with the Apple Watch Series 4 smartwatch. While the devices were expected, rumors also had many of Apple’s fans excited in anticipation for the launch of the much awaited AirPower Charging Mat, which did not make the cut. Now new set of reports have surfaced online suggesting that the launch of Apple’s wireless charging pad is likely to get delayed due to overheating and communication issues.
According to John Gruber from Daring Fireball, one of the biggest issues Apple is facing with AirPower is with overheating. This is essentially being caused because of the device’s multi coil design. Another report from SonnyDickson states that heat from device can also cause performance setbacks and can affect the ability of the devices to charge if they become too warm in the process.
Not just that, Apple engineers have also been facing problems in getting the AirPower mat to communicate with devices placed on it. This means that the charging pad is not able to identify the charge level of the Apple Watch or iPhone it is supposed to charge.
While the issues are prominent, there is no guarantee if Apple will be able to find a solution for them without making drastic changes to the Airpower Mat design. One of report claims that in order to overcome the complex circuitry issues that are causing interference between charging multiple devices, Apple might just have to redesign the mat to be thicker. Even by doing so, Apple might still not be able to overcome all the issues its facing.

Following all of this, Apple has also removed the product and all its details from the company’s official website, further confirming the delay. While the fate of AirPower Charging Mat is still undecided, it’s better to assume to that you might not get to see it anytime soon.
