We have heard rumors about Apple developing two variants of the iWatch. But now, VentureBeat claims that Apple is in fact working with multiple watchmakers to develop a family of smartwatches.

The publication claims:

While most Apple-watchers and media have been laser-focused on one or two “iWatches” from Apple itself, the Cupertino, Calif.-based electronics and media giant may actually be working a number of partners in the watch business. Apple and its partners will offer a family of smartwatches to suit all tastes “from geek to chic,” our source says.

These partner watchmakers could include the likes of Swatch and Timex, which is interesting considering the former was looking at stopping Apple from using the iWatch nomenclature. Apple is expected to launch the iWatch in multiple sizes loaded with sensors, and protect the display with Sapphire glass. As far as pricing is concerned, the top-of-the-line iWatch likely to cost above $1,000.

Apple has been busy preparing for the iWatch launch. It has been on a hiring spree for design, healthcare and fitness, which also includes enlisting professional athletes. Apple also poached the sales director from Tag Heuer.

There still remain some discrepancies regarding the launch of the smartwatch. While earlier reports had pegged a launch for sometime in October, market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed that the launch has been delayed, with mass production pushed to November.
