As expected, Apple has extended its buyback offer till the end of this month, multiple retailers have told BGR India. The news comes after Samsung took on Apple’s offer and started a cashback scheme for its Galaxy smartphones along with a tablet and a camera. Price wars between Samsung and Apple have escalated to new heights as Apple is trying to turn on the heat in a market where it had been largely dormant before the launch of the iPhone 5. Apple has realized its carrier driven strategy that works globally does not work in a country like India where carriers don’t subsidize phones and is largely driven by a multi-level network of distributors. Apart from competing with Samsung, the buyback scheme is Apple’s way of making more people use iOS, who’d be more likely to upgrade to another iPhone or an iPad once they get accustomed to the operating system and this is just the beginning. We are hearing Apple is currently working out details to see if similar offers could be extended to the iPhone 4S and even the iPhone 5 closer to Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 launch in India.
