Apple iMac Pro, the most powerful desktop computer from the Cupertino-based company, is now available in India. The iMac Pro is the first mainstream workstation-class desktop computer from Apple in nearly three years. The device went on sale in the US from December 14 and the company confirmed it will be available soon in India as well. The new iMac Pro features a design similar to previous iMac Pro models, but it comes in new space grey color similar to iPhone and iPad models from the company. It sports a 27-inch 5K Retina display with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels and support for one billion colors. Apple says the display has a peak brightness of 500 nits and supports P3 wide color gamut.
The workstation-class desktop machine is powered by an eight core Intel Xeon W processor clocked at 3.2GHz with turbo boost up to 4.2GHz and 19MB cache. It also includes AMD Radeon Pro Vega 56 graphics processor with 8GB of HBM2 memory. The graphics processor brings 56 compute units, 3584 stream processors, 9 teraflops of single precision compute power and 18 teraflops of half precision compute power.
The iMac Pro is available with 32GB of DDR4 2666MHz ECC memory and 1TB solid-state storage. It features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera for video conferencing and can support two 5K external displays at 60Hz or four 4K UHD displays at 60Hz along with support for 1 billion colors. In terms of ports, the iMac Pro features four Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port, four regular USB 3.0 port, one SDXC card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. It also has a 10GB Ethernet support via RJ-45 connector.
The iMac Pro comes bundled with space grey magic keyboard with numeric keypa, space grey magic mouse 2 and optional space grey magic trackpad 2. The connectivity options include WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2 support. It runs macOS High Sierra out of the box and is aimed primarily at content creators working with 4K videos or editing 360-degree VR videos.
The iMac Pro also comes in 10-core and 18-core Xeon chipsets but the iPhone maker is not launching models in India just yet. The iMac Pro comes as a much need replacement to the trash-can Mac Pro, which has not seen an update in more than three years. Apple is also expected to launch a modular Mac Pro later this year or sometime early next year.
