Apple has kicked off a Repair Extension program for MacBook Pro users facing video issues. The program has kicked off in US and Canada, and will extend to other countries including India on February 27.According to Apple, some MacBook Pros sold between February 2011 and December 2013 are plagued with video-related issues. Symptoms include distorted or scrambled video, no video on the computer screen or the external display despite the computer being on. Unexpected computer restarts are also said to be the aftermath of the video playback issue.
The exact models said to be facing such issues include are the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro manufactured in 2011 and 15-inch Retina display MacBook Pro models manufactured from mid of 2012 to early 2013.
Consumers can check if their laptop is covered under this program by simply punching in the hardware serial number on the support page. On the other hand, Apple says that they have already begun contacting the Macbook Pro customers who have already paid for this problem and got the laptops repaired through an Apple authorized service center to arrange a reimbursement for them.
