Apple was recently in the news for the wrong reasons, and also faced lawsuits for throttling performance on older iPhones. The company did apologize for slowing down iPhones, launched discounted battery replacement programs, and also mentioned that it will allow users to turn off throttling in the next iOS update. Now, true to its words, Apple has started seeding developers with the iOS 11.3 Beta 2 update that does just that.

One of the highlights of the iOS 11.3 Beta 2 update is the introduction of a new Battery Health information feature. It is designed to offer iOS users with information about their battery health. You will be able to see the battery s maximum capacity compared to what it was when new, and also lets you check its peak performance rating.

You can access the battery health information under Settings in the Battery section. On newer devices that operate at full battery capacity such as the new iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8, you won’t see a toggle to turn off the throttling feature. However, if you have an older device, such as the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6s, you ll be able to see a toggle to turn off the throttling feature.

Apple has updated its support document that outlines the feature. This feature is enabled only after an unexpected shutdown first occurs on a device with a battery that has diminished ability to deliver maximum instantaneous power. This feature applies to iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple said on the support page.

Besides battery health information, the iOS 11.3 update also brings four new Animojis for the iPhone X, and Augmented Reality (AR) upgrades. Apple is also reportedly planning to use iCloud for a single sign-in option on iOS 11.3, but there is no word on whether the feature has made it to the beta update or not.
