Although Apple‘s September 12 event was the more glamorous one because of the launch of its new iPhones, the company could be holding a second event a little over a month later. And while this one won’t be as exciting, fans of the Apple iPad series will have something to look forward to. Apple is expected to launched the Apple iPad Pro (2018) this month, and thanks to 9to5Mac, new details have surfaced about the upcoming product. The new Apple iPad Pro could feature some of Apple’s key in-development technologies, including Face ID, which is the biometric security system introduced on the Apple iPhone X. The new iPad cold use a similar face authentication method to allow users secure access to the device, and thereby do away with Touch ID, the fingerprint sensor built into the tablets. This could also allow an edge-to-edge screen design on the new iPad Pro. However, there is unlikely to be a notch on the screen, instead having all of the required hardware built into a narrow bezel. Apart from this the iPad Pro could allow easy connectivity to external displays, which has typically been a pain-point for iPads and prevented them from being entirely usable as primary productivity devices. Reports currently suggest that Apple could finally move away from the Lighting port and adopt the more universal USB Type-C standard. This will allow easier connectivity, and also enable 4K HDR video streaming in real-time from the iPad to an external display.

Apart from this, the new iPad Pro is expected to come in two sizes, with two storage options in each size. Additionally, users will have the option to get the Wi-Fi only variant, or go with an LTE option that allows a SIM card to be used for on-the-go connectivity. It’s possible that there will also be a new Apple Pencil introduced alongside the Apple iPad Pro (2018).
