Apple launched its iPhone 3GS back in June 2009 which is almost a decade back. The device came with 3G capabilities and rocked a cutting-edge 256MB RAM, 3-megapixel camera on the back and a 3.5-inch display with big fat bezels. The device camera with iOS 3 and the maximum you could get was a 32GB internal storage variant. This been almost 9 years and according to a report by Venture Beat, this gem from the archives of the smartphone history is coming back on sale.
Yes, you head it right, Apple iPhone 3GS is coming back on sale in the year 2018. The report states that SK Telink, a telecom provider in South Korea “discovered an unsold” crate of “new-in-box” iPhone 3GS devices at one of its warehouses. The company will offer these devices for sale along with the original accessories and packaging for about $41 without any contract. Obviously, its been too long since the devices were sitting in the warehouse so SK Telink will check all the devices to see if their batteries are still working before repacking and sending them of the buyers.
Watch: Apple iOS 12 features
Obviously, there are a number of factors to consider if you are planning to buy the “new” iPhone 3GS in addition to the usual question about how to buy one from South Korea. These issues include the fact that 3GS supports older larger SIM cards along with no support of 4G. The device will not be able to run a number of current iOS apps and even repairs will be an issue as spare parts will be difficult to come by for the 3GS.
However, any potential buyer will be able to do basic functions such ask send or receive text messages, play music, and make phone calls. Though this is a good opportunity for collectors to get their hands on a relatively new device from the smartphone history.
