Just like it happens every year, rumors and speculations around the next generation iPhone have reached a state of frenzy, ranging from alleged renders to a taller display to engineering samples to pre-orders and everything in between. The latest bit of ‘information’ comes from Know Your Mobile, which is citing a “reliable industry source” to claim the next iPhone aka the iPhone 5 will be announced on August 7. This will be a departure from Apple’s usual iPhone announcements, which used to happen in June and was shifted to October for the iPhone 4S. Most recent analyst and supply chain chatter, however, still point to a September or October launch. However, WSJ had earlier reported that the iPhone 5 will go into production in June, which could probably mean an August launch. Also Read - Apple iPhone 6 could be launched on September 19
On the flipside, iOS 6 is still not ready for primetime and so far it is still in the second beta, a far cry from gold master or the final shipping version. Can Apple push it from its current buggy beta stage to shipping version in three weeks? We won’t be betting our money on it to happen considering how particular Apple is about getting the software right.
The iPhone 5 is expected to sport a 3.95-inch display with a 640×1136 pixel resolution in a drastically thinner but longer chassis. It is also rumored to be utilizing an “in-cell display” to make the display assembly slimmer.
While we are still not convinced about an early August iPhone launch, we will be looking out for hints during Apple’s quarterly earnings call on July 24.
