Apple s colorful iPhone 5C has reportedly reached its end. MacRumors cites reports on Taiwan s Industrial and Commercial Times that claim Apple has asked its suppliers Wistron and Foxconn to stop production of the iPhone 5C by mid-2015. This comes after Apple discontinued the iPhone 4S and the iPod Classic earlier this year. These reports are also in line with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo s recent report that claimed Apple would discontinue the iPhone 5C next year. Apple had launched the iPhone 5C last year, alongside the iPhone 5S. In addition to being an affordable alternative to the iPhone 5S, it was also the first iPhone in Apple s portfolio to feature a plastic case in vivid color options. Sales for the iPhone though didn t meet Apple s expectations, and to extend the smartphone s life the company also launched a cheaper 8GB variant of the device earlier this year.
One of the reasons for discontinuing the iPhone 5C could be that Apple is planning on streamlining its lineup. After discontinuing the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5C is also the only iPhone that doesn’t have the TouchID sensor, which is essential to the company’s Apple Pay feature.
