Apple today launched the much-awaited new iPhone 6 in two variants, with the 4.7-inch variant called iPhone 6 and the bigger 5.5-inch variant called iPhone 6 Plus. While the new iPhones are scheduled to go on sale in the US on September 19, a quick look at Apple s India website reveals that the new iPhones will be available in India on October 17. UPDATE: It seems the September 26 date that was reflecting on Apple India’s website after the keynote was an error. It has now been updated to October 17. While Apple has revealed its India launch plans, there is no word on the pricing. In the US, the iPhone 6 prices start at $199 for the 16GB variant and go up to $399 for the 128GB variant, while the pricing of the bigger variant starts at $299 for the 16GB and goes up to $499 for the 128GB variant. These prices are subsidized by carriers, and the unlocked prices start from $649 for the iPhone 6 and $749 for the iPhone 6 Plus. As far as specifications are concerned, the iPhone 6 sports 4.7-inch (1334×750 pixels) display, while the iPhone 6 Plus flaunts a full HD (1920 1080 pixels) display. They are both powered by a new 64-bit A8 processor, which in turn is paired with an M8 coprocessor that is responsible for fitness and tracking services.
The new smartphones also feature an improved 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.5 pixels, optical image stabilization, and true tone flash, and a 1.2-megapixel Facetime camera at the front. Both the smartphones are available in three storage variants 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. The battery on the iPhone 6 can survive up to 14 hours, while the bigger iPhone 6 Plus battery can easily last for more than 24 hours. On the connectivity front, the new iPhones support up to 20 LTE bands with speeds going up to 150 Mbps, faster Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC.
As for design, the iPhones are thinner than before, with the iPhone 6 measuring 6.8mm and the iPhone 6 Plus measuring 7.1mm. In comparison, the iPhone 5S is 7.6mm.
