Apple unveiled its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last month, and is expected to launch them in India on October 17. In the meantime, Airtel has quietly listed the iPhone 6 Plus on its website as Coming Soon. The listing was first spotted by TelecomTalk. Not surprisingly, the listing doesn t mention a price or a specific launch date. Airtel will offer the 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants of the iPhone 6 Plus in three color variants white, space grey and gold. Interestingly there is no mention of the iPhone 6 on the site. Last year, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C both went on sale on Airtel s website. The network operator had also announced special plans for iPhone buyers, which were essentially a 50 percent discount on the standard plans. It is likely that Airtel will follow a similar path with the launch of the new iPhones in India.
Speaking of which, there is still a lot of speculation around when Apple will launch the new iPhones in India. A report surfaced last week, claiming that Apple was looking at postponing the launch in India owing to the high demand for the new phones in markets like the US and China. But yesterday, we reported that there were currently no changes in the plans, and the launch would take place on October 17, which is the Friday before Diwali.
While we are a few days away from an official launch, some e-commerce sites in India are selling the iPhone 6 for around Rs 56,000. An Apple Premium Reseller in Bangalore has started taking preorders for the iPhones for Rs 10,000, with the remaining balance to be paid when the phones officially launch.
